Nick Fransman ousts Jordy Hilbink to win a spot in main round – Spanish Open Update
Netherland’s Nick Fransman continued his successful run in the Spanish Open as he stamped compatriot shuttler Jordy Hilbink in qualifying round on May 17, 2012.
Both shuttlers sweat hard in three gruelling sets which lasted for 51 minutes before ending with 21-10, 19-21 and 21-16 scores on the board.
There was lot of drama in final tussle of qualifying round as Nick formed an immediate lead after winning first game but Jordy bounced back in next game and setup a nerve-racking decider.
The first set of match saw Nick Fransman in prime touch as he unleashed an unbeatable flurry of strokes and bagged opening segment of show with a distinctive lead of eleven points.
In first half, he faced hardly any resistance from his challenger and hit the bench as leading contender when break was announced.
After the interval, he lost grip over game for a short span of time and the opposing shuttler added few valuable points in his total.
However, Nick put his expedition to halt and restored his supremacy with some nonstop rallies. He finished first set with a favourable margin of 21-10.
The following game proved best part of the match as both players played laudable badminton to achieve their respective goals. They remained toe-to-toe in most part of second set and made the crowd gasp with their breath-taking performance.
In opening section of game, none of them could get into authoritative position as they chased each other in top gear.
Though, Nick managed to end first half with a slight edge but his opponent narrowed the gap in the third quarter of the match.
Dutch shuttler Jordy Hilbink brought the match to the right balance by winning second set with a tight yet decisive total of 21-19.
However, he could not go with the same flow in the third and final set as Nick Fransman dazzled him with a lustrous performance.
This time he did not give his rival even a single chance to rise and dominated in most chunk of the game. The final figure of 21-16 granted Nick a permit to proceed in main round of Spanish Open 2012.
