Nick Fry: Mercedes GP not ‘panicking’ about their 2011 performance – Formula 1 news
Mercedes GP’s CEO Nick Fry recently stated that his team is not panicking “yet” about the fact that they are not performing as well as they were expecting for their 2011 run.
However, he admitted that the cancellation of the Bahrain Grand Prix is going to benefit the team as they would now get more time to improve their 2011 car.
“We are not panicking, we have a plan, we're sticking to it and I think that we will be in a reasonable shape by the time we get to Australia,” said Nick
Team Mercedes has been trying its best to come up with the best piece of machinery for the 2011 Formula 1 season in order to compete with the top running teams in the sport and enable its drivers Michael Schumacher and Nico Rosberg to perform at their best.
In order to ensure that, the team has been trying its best to improve its car during the pre-season test sessions but according to the team’s boss Ross Brawn, they are currently a second off then they were expecting. The team has been struggling with overheating
problems during the pre-season test sessions as well.
“Performance, obviously from what we've seen on the track, at the moment is not as good as we would like. But I think there are two major reasons for that. One is that the car did have some cooling issues and has been running with a very sub-optimal cooling
package and aerodynamic package, and that is [worth] a significant amount of time,” he told the media.
Nevertheless, it is expected that Team Mercedes would test a new aerodynamic package at the final pre-season test session that is expected to take place in Barcelona and according to Fry, the team is still confident about its 2011 run.
The first race of the 2011 Formula 1 season is expected to take place in Australia on the March 27 now as the season opening race that was expected to take place in Bahrain was postponed due to the political unrest in the country.
Team Mercedes is going to take full advantage of the delay and try to come up with the solutions for its current problems and the best possible package for its new car to ensure that they perform up to the mark in the 2011 Formula 1 season.
