Nick Heidfeld, Adrian Sutil still hopeful for Formula 1 return – Formula 1 news
Nick Heidfeld and Adrian Sutil are the two German drivers who have not lost hope of their Formula 1 careers.
Nick Heidfeld joined Renault mid way through the 2011 season replacing Bruno Senna who was actually a replacement for the injured Robert Kubica.
Heidfeld failed to show any results to keep his race seat with the team and faced axing at the end of the season. Heidfeld though says that he has not given up hope and is looking for a race seat.
“Of course I've been trying to get a seat,” he told Servus TV. “But we all know that it's not easy at the moment, with money playing a big role. I've been there for many years, it was a great time, but I would still like to be involved for a bit longer.”
Sutil has had a good stint with Force India though he was dropped from the team. He was still considered a good driver and may as well have had a race seat for the 2012 season but a criminal charge put on him due a bar fight he had has convicted him to 18
months suspended jail.
Sutil also says that he has not left hope and will be looking to get a race seat in the next season.
“I'm hopeful. It's always difficult to make plans in this business, but I would like to come back in 2013 with a very good team. It's a shame for me that I will probably not be there at the start in Melbourne, but hopefully one way or another I will (be
back) in the course of the year,” the German said.
Before the conviction, Sutil was rumoured to have been in talks with Lotus, Force India and Williams for a race seat. It will be difficult for him to make a comeback in 2013 but that may be the only option left for him.
Heidfeld after 12 consecutive seasons in the sport has been left without a race seat and he will also find it hard to make a comeback after the 2012 season. Although both drivers will get some heart from the fact that a lot of drivers are in line to lose
their contracts at the end of the year.
