Nick Heidfeld: Renault bounced back in the 2011 Canadian Grand Prix – Formula 1 news
Renault driver Nick Heidfeld has said that his team bounced back on the grid in the recently held Canadian Grand Prix after a disappointing Monaco race weekend.
He also mentioned that after the Montreal race weekend, it has been cleared that Renault are beginning to improved in terms of their performance and that they are moving in the right direction.
Heidfeld had a poor Canadian race weekend, as he was unable to finish his race for the team due to an accident. He had a contact with Sauber driver Kamui Kobayashi and was not classified due to that.
The German added that despite retiring from the Montreal Grand Prix, he was quite happy with his teammate Vitaly Petrov’s performance over there. In addition, he said Renault’s progress in Canada encouraged him for the next races of 2011 Formula 1 season.
He discussed his team’s current progress and mentioned, “We now know which direction we need to take, and it is obvious the team started doing that during the two-week spell between Monaco and Montreal. These things don't magically happen overnight, but
we have done a good job in analysing where we need to improve.”
Apart from that, his teammate Petrov talked about his Canadian race performance. He admitted that he is happy with his fifth place finish in the Montreal race and now he wants to do better in the upcoming races.
After a successful race weekend in Canada, the Russian driver believes that he can score more points for the team in the remainder of the 2011 Formula 1 season. He further added that the team can achieve their goals for this year’s championship.
The Renault driver went on to add, “Sometimes I've made mistakes, sometimes our pitstops could have been improved, but generally I think we can take it up a level. We need to minimise the mistakes, and the points will keep on coming.”
After the seventh round of this season, both the drivers are ready to impress in the upcoming Valencia Grand Prix which will take place on June 26, 2011.
