Nick Heidfeld insists he is not under pressure at Renault – Formula 1 news
Recent reports revealed that Formula 1 Renault driver Nick Heidfeld insists that he is not under any extra pressure to perform at the Malaysian Grand Prix this weekend.
Despite of his troubled first run for Renault in the Melbourne race, he is looking forward to his successful Malaysian event for his team.
He said, “So on one side it makes it even more difficult to swallow that result - because you know what would be possible. But on the other side it is a huge motivation for the rest of the season and this weekend.”
He went on to say, “Honestly I cannot wait to finally get started again. Unfortunately there were two weeks between the two races, as I would have liked to have had one week and get going again.”
Heidfeld looked very strong initially and he was busy setting the early pace of the team, but after passing some time during the practice session, he suffered a dramatic front-right brake failure.
He managed to complete only 6 laps for Renault. His teammate Vitaly Petrov suffered with a catastrophic problem under the braking for turn 9 relating to his left-front wheel. However, he completed only 4 laps, with a best time of 1 minute and 47.932 seconds.
He told the media that Mercedes GP team seemed a bit unhappy with their opening practice session results because they believed that they have more up their sleeves and can get better results by this weekend.
He also discussed McLaren team’s performance and added that the team took an enormous leap forward compared to the 2011 testing sessions.
He further added, “Ferrari also find it difficult to predict if they will be better here or not, as I think they struggled a lot with tyres in Australia.”
