Nick Heidfeld is not satisfied with 2011 prospects – Formula 1
Renault’s stand-in driver, Nick Heidfeld, has shown concern over the team’s performance in the 2011 Formula 1 season so far. Nick, also called Quick-Nick, stated that the team could have performed better than just a third place podium finish.
The German has impressed in his first season with the Renault team and scored a third place finish in the second race of the season, the Malaysian Grand Prix. Quick Nick is still not satisfied with the performance and commented that 16 more races are waiting
on the calendar and the team will get an opportunity to strike with bigger numbers.
He said, “I think both for me and for the team, it’s very nice, but then again, I think we didn’t maximise the potential that we had in those three races. But that’s a relief when I look at the calendar and see that there are still so many races to go.”
Nick destroyed two front wings in two Practice sessions. After that, he had to race with the old specification wing which did not help his chances in the race. Talking about his performance, he added that damaging two front wings in the Chinese Grand Prix’s
Free Practice session was a big step back for the team and for himself.
After the Chinese Grand Prix, Renault boss, Eric Boullier, stated that the team cannot perform without Robert Kubica. This comment meant that after the injured Polish driver recovers, Nick will be the one leaving Renault’s car, R31.
Talking about Kubica, Nick said, “We were team-mates for four years - or three and a half seasons - so we know each other. I think I know pretty well where I stand compared to Robert.” Nick further added that he and Kubica were almost equal in pace and he
is not afraid of Boullier’s comment.
The Turkish Grand Prix is just around the corner and Nick will try his level best to at least beat his young Russian team-mate, Vitaly Petrov, so that when Kubica gets ready for a drive in Renault team, the German is not the one to lose his seat.
