Nick Heidfeld says Formula 1 is still his major target for 2012 season – Formula 1 news
Nick Heidfeld, former Lotus Renault GP driver, has said that he is currently focused on securing a seat in Formula 1 for the 2012 season.
He said he is bent on resuming his career with the same team in the upcoming season.
The German driver, despite his recent ousting from the Lotus Renault team seems very confident that he still has the potential to secure a seat in Formula 1.
Heidfeld joined Renault in February 2011 after Robert Kubica suffered serious injuries at a rally accident in Italy. However, Heidfeld’s contract with the team could not last for long and he was soon replaced by the Brazilian Bruno Senna.
He does agree that his performance during this year unfortunately has not been up to the mark and believes that he could have done better.
The 34-year-old German is quite optimistic at the moment that his good repute will surely earn him a reasonable place in Formula 1 next year.
Heidfeld has recently been associated with the Deutsche Tourenwagen Masters (DTM), and there are rumours that Heidfeld might link-up with BMW who are expected to return to DTM next year.
While speaking to German broadcaster ARD, he said, “About a possible future in the DTM, I do not want to speculate. Of course there are still the contacts but it's still too early to talk about it. Naturally DTM is at the highest level of motor sport but my goal is to be again in Formula One next year.”
Heidfeld, who took part in the German touring car round at Oschersleben held recently, confirmed that F1 is still his first priority.
He further said, “As long as there is a chance of a Formula One cockpit, I will work for it.”
Heidfeld is heading to the 2011 Singapore Grand Prix, scheduled for September 25, 2011 at the Marina Bay Street Circuit as he wants to gets a clearer picture of what is in store for the next season.
Let’s see how the future of this German driver turns out to be for him.
