Nick Heidfeld says Renault can do better in Turkish weekend – Formula 1 update
Formula 1 Renault driver, Nick Heidfeld believes that his team will show their better run in the Turkish weekend, as he considers the new R31 as a potential challenger to other opponents.
Renault kicked-off the 2011 season with a strong run, as both their drivers, Vitaly Petrov and Nick Heidfeld secured third-place finishes in Australia and Malaysia, respectively.
German driver, Heidfeld is driving very well in place of Renault’s injured driver, Robert Kubica. He put his hopes towards the next race weekend of the season and says his team will continue to develop their new R31 car at a rapid rate, so that both drivers
can stay ahead of Mercedes and Ferrari and also challenge the winners, Red Bull and McLaren.
Renault had a positive start in the first two events of this season held in Australia and Malaysia, respectively, but the racing team was unable to complete their perfect weekend in Shanghai, as their car experienced some reliability problem in the qualifying
round of the race.
A conservative strategy was seen by the Renault team drivers on the circuit in Shanghai, China. However, the drivers failed to gather their strong run among the strong competitors of Formula 1.
Heidfeld discussed Renault’s 2011 early-season form and said, "It's been a bit up and down. On the positive side, the car is very innovative and it is quick. It is also responding well to set-up changes, it has got a good straight-line speed and has already
proved to be competitive on different track layouts.”
He went on to add, "We're expecting upgrades for Turkey which is good, and of course the other teams will react too and work hard to beat us. We'll be doubling our efforts in order to catch the teams in front. You never know what can happen during a race
weekend but both my team and I will fight hard."
On the other hand, Team Boss, Eric Boullier expects a lot from his drivers. He added that he is hopeful that Renault drivers will show an improving run in Turkey, if they are looking forward to win in the 2011 season.
Renault’s Boss explained that if a driver has a wish to play with the ‘big boys’ of the sport, then he has to run perfectly on the grid. Boullier added that the team also needs to manage everything during their races.
The season’s fourth race will take place on May 8, 2011, at the Istanbul Park Circuit, Istanbul, Turkey. It will be interesting to see how Renault manages their best run among the top competitors of the first three events of this season.
