Nick Heidfeld says Renault have a potential to fight for season’s success – Formula 1 news
Renault driver Nick Heidfeld has said that the team is still capable of producing an impressive run on the grid in the remaining races after a disappointing show in the recently held Monaco Grand Prix.
Heidfeld had a strong start to the 2011 season, as he managed a podium finish at the Malaysian Grand Prix. After that, the team was hoping for a race victory from him in the next races. However, due to an unsupportive role of his R31 car, he could not do
so.
He took part in the recent Monaco GP with hopes of winning the race, but the crash during the last laps hindered his bid to secure the podium position.
Despite an unproductive Monaco GP, the German believes that Renault can make a productive run on the grid until the end of the season. He added they have a potential to fight the strong team for the season’s success.
He said, “No, I don't think so. If it is disallowed [the blown diffuser], it is disallowed for everybody, for us that is the first thing. I don't know why it should be because according to the people I speak to in my team it is perfectly legal, which is
why everybody has it.”
The 34-year-old driver went on to mention, “And secondly if I look at our development plans and what will come in the next week sand months, there is a lot of potential to move forward so I don't view this race as the best chance of the season.”
Heidfeld discussed the upcoming Canadian Grand Prix and added that being a fast team, they will be focussing on getting close to the current competitors of the ongoing season.
Renault have a good car this season, however Heidfeld is looking forward to finishing again on the podium in the upcoming Canadian Grand Prix, which is scheduled to be held on June 12, 2011. Let’s see if he’s able to do just that.
