Nick Heidfeld says he will not apologise to Paul di Resta for German Grand Prix incident – Formula 1 news
Lotus Renault GP driver Nick Heidfeld has said that he is not going to apologise to Force India’s Paul di Resta for their collision at the Nurburgring during the 2011 German Grand Prix as it was just a racing incident.
The German driver was given a drive-through penalty for the incident by the race stewards but since he retired as a result of another collision with Sebastien Buemi, he was unable to survive the race until then.
“It was a racing incident, I'm okay with them penalising me, and so there is no special reason why I've not said anything to him. In Canada people thought he crashed into the back of my car, and rather than apologising, he blamed me. So why should I go and
apologise? It's just racing. Life goes on,” said Heidfeld.
Other than that, Heidfeld claims that he deserved an apology from di Resta after a similar incident which took place at the Canadian Grand Prix and he did not get an apology from the Force India driver.
On the other hand, Paul di Resta claims that the incident at Montreal harmed him more than Nick Heidfeld as he had to pit in order to get a new front wing. He claims that if it was his mistake, he would have apologised and stated that he has done that before
but only when he was wrong.
“The thing in Canada never cost him anything. And then he ran into the back of me and took me out of the race in Germany. He's not apologised, he's not spoken to me, and that disappoints me because it was pretty blatant. I lost more out of it than he did.
He was the one that committed the crime,” said di Resta.
The two drivers suffered as a result of their incident during the German Grand Prix though as Heidfeld retired while di Resta was unable to secure a single point either as he was driven to the very back of the grid after the collision.
