Nick Lawrence decides to run Norwich Half Marathon
There is no denying the fact that marathon races have inspired people from all fields, and media personnel are no exceptions to this phenomenon. Recently, swept by his innate talent in athletics, Nick Lawrence, a producer at BBC announced to take part in
the Norwich Half Marathon.
The decision taken by Lawrence stirred contentment in Lamine Diack, President of the International Association of Athletics Federations (IAAF), who usually welcomes such measures that ultimately inspire common people to develop a taste for athletics.
However, an important factor that must be considered here is that Lawrence did not decide to be a part of the Norwich Half Marathon amid his mere inspiration for the race. Rather, by doing so, he wanted to help his partner, Diane Hare, who was diagnosed
with breast cancer.
Hare, the 46-year-old brave lady, is grappling with the disease well. After being diagnosed with the fatal disease, she is now undergoing chemotherapy treatment.
By running in the race, the 45-year-old TV producer is expected to raise a sum of £ 500, this coming Sunday.
To meeting his target, the journalist will be helped by Norwich Charity which works for the welfare of the bereaved children.
While talking about his partner’s health and how Nelson’s Journey had helped him to pursue with his cause, Lawrence, who has already raised £ 125, said, “The diagnosis brought very sharply into focus the important service offered by Nelson’s Journey to bereaved
children. In my professional life I frequently try to raise awareness of, and tell stories about marginalized, communities, organizations and individuals”.
Thus, he said, opting to raise funds for Nelson’s Journey was a natural choice for him.
Talking about his running career so far, Lawrence, who has also been working for Watchdog as a reporter, said, “The longest I’ve ran before was about 12 or 13 miles when I was about 18, but it wasn’t an official race. I’ve put a lot of training in over the
last six weeks and I want to be below two hours”.
Besides hitting the course for fund- raising purposes, Lawrence has also made a short film which features a child supported by Nelson’s Journey.
