Nick Nuyens keen about riding at the Tour of Flanders, 2012
Belgian star rider, Nick Nuyens, believes that his wins towards the end of the season will help him perform better in 2012. The Saxo Bank classics specialist won the Dwars door Vlaanderen followed by a splendid win at the Tour of Flanders.
Nick joined the Danish team, Saxo Bank-SunGard, in 2011 and impressed the management with his inspiring performances throughout the season.
He started his professional career with Team Quick Step-Davitamon in 2003 and spent a period of four years with the team.
He then stayed with Team Cofidis from 2007 to 2008 and joined Team Rabobank in 2009.
Nuyens is considered as a classics specialist and his major wins include Kuurne-Brussels-Kuurne, Paris-Brussels, Omloop Het Volk and the recent Tour of Flanders.
The 31-year-old mentioned that his main focus for the coming season will be Tour of Flanders, which means he has to skip some of his favourite races.
He will be missing the chances to ride at the Omloop Het Nieuwsblad and Kuurne-Brussel-Kuurne in the coming season.
The Belgian commented, "I will focus this year on the Tour [of Flanders], but all races in this period interest me. If I can get a win, then that's fantastic. There are plenty of opportunities".
He continued, "I've never focused entirely on the Tour of Flanders, but it's the race where I'm at my best”.
Nuyens believed that winning the Tour of Flanders can certainly help him have a terrific start for the coming season.
Tour of Flanders has unveiled a new route for the season ahead which makes it more interesting for everyone.
Nick believes that the changes made to the race will bring many surprises. He said, "It will be a new experience for everybody, the spectators and the riders”.
On commenting about the new route he observed, "Three times up the Oude Kwaremont and Paterberg will be hard. The atmosphere around will be really special there as the spectators can stay there".
Race Director Rik Vanwalleghem told Het Nieuwsblad that the route of this year’s Tour will be totally different than the previous editions of the race.
