Nick Price and Jack Nicklaus confirmed as Presidents Cup captains
Nick Price and Jack Nicklaus have been named as the captains for the International team and US team respectively for the 2013 Presidents Cup, scheduled to be played at the Muirfield Village Golf Club.
Price has always been a great fan of the Presidents Cup and the last time he made his appearance, he broke his putter after missing the putt on the final hole of the event.
However, he has now received a chance to be a captain of the team and the golf communities expect a little extra professionalism from his side.
After the PGA Tour commissioner Tim Finchem made the announcement at a news conference, Price said that it was the moment he was waiting for a very long time.
Both the players have good experience of playing in the Presidents Cup. However, price has a distinction of being the player with maximum number of appearances before becoming a captain.
He competed for the International team for five times and has a record of 8-11-4. On the other hand, Couples participated in four events prior to becoming a captain with an overall record of 9-5-2.
Both the players faced each other in 1994 singles when Couples defeated Price 1-UP.
"We all put our hearts in it," Price said. "I think the first one, I don't want to say we didn't put our hearts into it, but we didn't quite know what was going on. Whereas the next four I played in, we knew exactly what was going on. We played our tails
off. We tried so hard".
During the past few years, Ryder Cup has been dominated by the Europeans. However, it is completely opposite in Presidents Cup, as the US team has won all but two.
The International team has received only one victory that came in the 1998 edition of the event.
"I'm a little bit laid back, and I wasn't laid back in the whole scenario of what's right for the Presidents Cup," said Couples. "But what's right for the 12 guys, that's pretty easy. You just let them do their thing. You ask them what they want to play.
You don't tell them when they're going to play".
Couples has captained the US team in the last two Presidents Cup, and he came out victorious in 2009 and 2011.
