Nick Price rockets into lead at Toshiba Classic - Round 2 updates
54-year-old Nick Price smashed four-under 68 in the second round of the Toshiba Classic to surge into the clubhouse lead. This was part of the $1.7 million Champion tour event underway at Newport Beach Country Club in California.
The Zimbabwean, who carded 11-under par 60 in the first round, failed to match the early pace and reeled four birdies against a bogey to compile a 68.  The player faced trouble in driving accuracy and hence faltered in Green Hits in regulation. The player
attributed the sluggishness to the weather conditions that were extremely windy.
He was chased by Mark Wiebe who fired 65 for the second time in the tournament. The American is consistent and this trait might lead him to a victory. A two-way tie was seen at the third place, which included Joe Ozaki of Japan and Mark O’Meara from United
States. The Japanese anchored the lowest score of the day alongside Michael Allen, Gil Morgan and Don Pooley. Ozaki reeled seven birdies without dropping a shot and rocketed up on the leader board from the fifteenth spot to the third.
Meanwhile, O’Meara who reeled six birdies on Friday missed the putt for par on the par-4 11th hole and settled at a 67. Fifth spot of the leader board was taken by a trio, which included Fred Couple, Tom Pernice Jr. and Michael Allen.
2010 Ryder Cup captain, Corey Pavin, surprised the spectators with a fine game. The American opened the round with three back-to-back birdies starting from the first hole. The 51-year-old veteran netted another set of birdies on the sixth and seventh hole
before bogeying the two closing holes of the front. He anchored two more birdies on the back and capped the round at five-under par 66.
On the other hand, the former world-number one, Bernhard Langer, failed to match the score he produced in the first round. The German picked up a single birdie on the last hole after bogeying three holes on the preceding holes. Legendary golfer Tom Watson
had a similar experience. The 61-year-old veteran par-equalled the course after driving a tee shot into a fairway bunker on the 14th hole and missing the par putts at two occasions.
