Nick Punto likely to be a valuable asset for Boston Red Sox – MLB Update
The Boston Red Sox have come under a lot of scrutiny in the recent past, but this has not halted their ambition of becoming the top team in Major League Baseball. They barely missed out on a postseason berth this past season, but are now looking strong to
earn a qualification for the playoffs in the next season. Although it is still early to predict the outcome of the regular season, a new management and some radical changes in the roster propel one to think that the Red Sox have enough talent to back their
abilities in Major League Baseball.
The Red Sox are known for their resolute performance at the highest level and their performance in 2011, barring September, was nothing less than outstanding. Nevertheless, a series of allegations after the end of the season dented their achievements and
it was generally believed that the only reason that halted the qualification of Boston to the postseason was the infighting between the players.
Players were alleged of drinking in dugout during games and team owner John Henry was utterly disappointed on this behaviour by the team. Although the players said to be involved were not a part of that particular game or outing, the activity itself was
against the decorum of the franchise as well as Major League Baseball.
The Red Sox management in general and GM Ben Cherington in particular have become overly active in the past few days, hinting that the Red Sox do not have any plans of retiring this early in the offseason. Although the management might not sign the big names
available in the free agent market, a few radical changes are likely to change the overall mood of the dugout.
Nick Punto is known for his switch-hitting abilities and resolute defence, both of which are currently required by the Red Sox. Boston has a strong pitching rotation, but offence is one area where the team needs drastic improvements and this might just be
the beginning of that journey. With the deal now in order, it will be interesting to see how the roster shapes up for 2012.
