Nick Ring ends feud with Court McGee, wins via unanimous decision at UFC 149 – UFC News
Nick Ring, the surging young Canadian middleweight proud, ended his feud with arch rival Court McGee by collecting a unanimous decision win in a three-round bout held on the preliminary card of UFC 149, televised live on July 21, 2012.
The duo headlined the prelims which were broadcasted live on FX channel from Scotiabank Saddledome in Calgary, Alberta, Canada. Apart from the preliminary fight card, the event’s main card witnessed Urijah Faber take on Renan Barao in a bout for the vacant
interim UFC bantamweight gold.
The pay-per-view especially the main card did not fulfil the expectations of the crowd who went wild after witnessing B-grade brawlers take on each other in a boring odd way.
Nick and Court were entering the octagon for the second time against each other. In their first meeting, it was Ring who came out victorious by collecting a majority decision.
The judgement was highly criticised and dubbed as a close one since the octagon was mostly dominated by Court instead of Nick. This time it was somewhat personal as Nick wanted to prove that he is the best and can outclass a brawler like McGee.
From the very first second, the duo unleashed a wave of powerful punches and fists that connected well. While undergoing the kickboxing brawling stance, the duo bloodied each other’s face slightly.
Nick ended the round with a powerful right hand that stunned McGee, slowing his movement and pace. The second round witnessed a clear onslaught by Nick who connected a head kick and a series of well targeted punches, as a result Court’s nose started to bleed.
The third round was mostly dominated by Court who made a late but impressive comeback. McGee found an opening, moved in, capitalised it and started to connect decent left right combinations.
In the last seconds, Court ended the round in a dominating way by attempting a successful takedown. At the end of the day, it was Nick who received judges nod by collecting 29-28 on all three cards.
After the bout, the victorious Nick stated, “I never felt so much support in my life. I can't thank the fans enough for cheering me on and giving me that extra bit of energy I needed. I think Court had plenty of fight left in him. I respect him as a person
and an athlete. I gave everything I had out there. Even when I was hurting, I kept going and put it all out there. I was going to keep fighting till the end.”
The win has improved Nick’s resume to 13 wins in a total of 14 bouts whereas Court has unfortunately received his third career loss.
