Nick Swisher agrees to four year $56 million contract with Cleveland Indians – MLB News

Former New York Yankees’ outfielder Nick Swisher has agreed to a four year $56 million contract with the Cleveland Indians, reports ESPN. Com. Swisher tweeted the news on his Twitter account late on Monday evening.
The contract will also include a $14 million option for a fifth years, the source further claimed, making it worth $70 million if Swisher decides to take that option. Swisher had a decent time on the mound for the Yankees last season as he helped his side
emerge victorious in several important encounters. Overall, he hit .272 with 24 home runs and 93 RBI’s in 148 games. However, the outfielder was unable to live up to the expectations in the post season games and the Yankees had to pay a heavy price for his
consistency.
As the season ended, the Yankees did not show any interest in retaining him. Although they made him a qualifying offer for one year, Swisher was seeking a long term multimillion deal.
“Swisher and his wife, actress JoAnna Garcia, who is expecting the couple's first child in May, were at Progressive Field on Dec. 18 for a tour of the team's facilities, including the club's family room and a lunch with Francona, team executives and former
Ohio State football coach Jim Tressel”, said ESPN.com
“The Indians played a video on their scoreboard that featured current Ohio State football coach Urban Meyer and basketball coach Thad Matta, who encouraged Swisher to join the Indians. Swisher was moved by the gesture and didn't expect to see Tressel at
lunch in the stadium's Terrace Club”, they added.
New York Daily News was the first to report contract agreement. After spending the past four seasons with in New York, Swisher is ready to become a part of Cleveland Indians.
Swisher also took the opportunity to thank his followers on fans and supporters. The 32 year old is expected to join the Indians’ training camp sooner rather than later.
For Indians, Swisher can prove to be a blessing in disguise as he is expected to fill a hole in fight field, which was created after Shin Soo Choo was traded to Cincinnati Reds earlier this month.
