Nick Swisher to return to the Bronx in 2012 – MLB Update
The offseason is going slow for the New York Yankees, but they are not writing off any options this early in the trade market. The Yankees made a solid finish to the regular season, but failed to replicate their good form in the playoffs, crashing out in
the first stage of the prestigious competition.
Right after their elimination, the Yankees were clear on their weaknesses and areas for improvement for the next season. While strong on the offensive front, the Yankees realised that an overhaul in the bull-pen is a pre-requisite for success in 2012. In
this regard, they went all-out in a bid to keep their ace, CC Sabathia, onboard and are now looking for options to assist him in the rotation as the market goes deep.
One date which all general managers are waiting for is November 23, when teams will be required to decide on offering arbitration to players. While pitching remains a priority, the Yankees must ensure that they keep their offensive strength intact so as
to stamp their authority when the next season starts from April 4, 2012.
A major concern in this regard is Nick Swisher, who is unsure on his stay at the Bronx even after the management picked up his option for the next season. An out-fielder by trade, Swisher might spend one more season with the Yankees and then test the rough
waters of the free agent market.
Swisher, along with Alex Rodriguez and Mark Teixeira, failed to make mark in the American League Division Series, but was not moved by the performance at all. A-Rod and Teixeira were not moved either and played down any emotions after an ordinary performance.
“I think everybody in the Yankees organization and here in New York knows how excited I am and how Iucky I feel to be here,” Swisher said. “We’ll just see what happens after this year. That’s the fun part: You never know what’s going to happen.”
The slugger added that he has the ability and the talent to overcome all pressures. Swisher stated that although he has not been in top form of late, he is ready to go for an attempt at the World Series as early as the next season.
