Nick Watney falters after a promising start at World Challenge
What started off so brilliantly for Nick Watney seems to be fading away at the Sherwood Golf and Country Club.
For a second consecutive day, Watney shot a round in the 70s. He was leading the World Challenge after 18-holes but a round of 73 and 71 on Friday and Saturday, respectively, has more or less ended his hopes of winning the title.
For the last couple of days, the weather conditions have been tough for the players. On Friday, there was a slight drizzle. The conditions were far worse on Saturday. It was all soggy and wet as the players took to the field.
Watney is currently five-under for the tournament after carding one-under on Saturday. He carded four birdies and three bogeys.
It was a very see-saw performance from the American, as he faced problems controlling his shots.
On the other hand, Brandt Snedeker continued to disappoint at the Sherwood Golf and Country Club. After his second round performance, there was a glimmer of hope that we would see the real Snedeker.
However, the world number ten failed to live up to the expectations, as he carded one-over on Saturday.
The FedEx Cup holder is one-over for the tournament. He needed to shoot a low round on Saturday to have any hopes of being in contention but he failed to do so.
He started off poorly, as he carded a bogey right on the first hole. A birdie on the fifth hole meant that he was even par on the front nine. However, a lone bogey on the back nine meant that he finished one-over for the day.
Steve Stricker had a much better day, as he carded four-under on Saturday. He shot five birdies and a bogey on day three of the tournament.
The American had a terrific front nine, as he carded two birdies but a bogey on the back nine spoiled his day. Although he scored three birdies on the back nine, it was not as convincing as he would have liked.
It had been extremely disappointing for Watney, he started off extremely well at the Sherwood Golf and Country Club but soggy conditions and wrong decisions have penalised him dearly.
