Nicki Sorensen enchanted to end his season with a GP Bruno Beghelli win
Nicki Sorensen of Team Saxo Bank-Tinkoff Bank could not have asked for a better end to his 2012 season as he stormed through the finish-line during the GP Bruno Beghelli 2012 ending his 2012 campaign.
The cyclist had a disappointing season and struggled to register any victories in the earlier part of the season.
However, the victory at the 196.3 kilometre race really helped the cause and definitely takes some pressure-off Sorensen’s shoulders.
He took a total time of 4 hours, 31 minutes and 21 seconds and occupied the top podium position with Fabio Felline of Team Androni-Giocattoli, Matteo Rabottini of Team Farnese Vini-Selle Italia, Przemyslaw Niemiec of Team Lampre – ISD and Domenico Pozzovivo
of Team Colnago-Csf Inox achieving the next four positions in the respective order.
Manuel Belletti, Giairo Ermeti, Miguel Angel Rubiano Chavez, Sonny Colbrelli and Andrea Palini occupied the sixth, seventh, eighth, ninth and the tenth spots.
"It is a really good end to the season, and it is a great motivation towards winter training," the 37-year-old told sporten.tv2.dk.
“It is a medium-sized race that is well suited to all-round riders like me”.
“Just before I attacked, other riders including (Saxo Bank's) Chris Anker Sørensen and Troels Vinther attacked, and it looked like they would get away”.
“But then they were caught, and with about four kilometers to go, I went solo,” he said.
“I'm really happy about it. I had not been completely happy with my season, so it was a great way to finish up,” he told ekstrabladet.dk.
Team Saxo Bank-Tinkoff Bank is having a quite season and has only managed to grab eight victories this year.
The Danish team currently holds the 15th overall position after the UCI World Tour team’s rankings with as many as 385 UCI points in its bag.
The team had to face the disappointment when CAS banned its best rider, Alberto Contador for a period of two years.
The cyclist was proven guilty for using clenbuterol during the Tour de France 2010 and was given a two-year ban which restricted him from riding all the major cycling events of the year.
The Spaniard missed-out the Tour de France, Giro d’Italia and the 2012 Olympic Games and the only main race he was allowed to race in the current season was the Vuelta a Espana 2012.
Despite his late arrival, Alberto still managed to prove his strength after bagging an overall victory at the Spanish Grand Tour race of the season.
The 29-year-old helped the team with 290 UCI points and became the team’s highest scorer of the current season while Matteo Tosatto (30 points), C.A. Sorensen (30 points), J.J. Haedo (21 points) and Mads Christensen (14 points) helped the team with their
respective performances in the season.
