Nicklas Bendtner laments limited opportunities at Arsenal
Nicklas Bendtner last night threatened to quit Arsenal unless he becomes a regular starter. The Danish striker, who has started only two games after injury-plaque season thus far, said, “If the situation doesn’t change and I’m still on the bench at Arsenal,
I’ll look for a transfer. That’s obvious!
The lanky hot shot lamented, “I feel I’ve done everything right in getting back to fitness. I feel better than before the injury and at that point I was in the starting 11 and close to fulfilling my potential. When I’m 100 per cent fit, I can’t accept sitting
on the bench".
“I’m turning 23 soon and it’s important to my development and further career to play regularly. I’ll just say that I’m 100 per cent good enough for the starting 11 in Arsenal. If my manager feels differently that’s fair, and he’s the one choosing the team,
but then I disagree,” added Bendtner.
While the Danish international may have a point, he might find out that by making his frustration public he has shot himself on the foot. The 23 year old was initially out through injury but on his return to fitness, he found out that Marouane Chamakh had
jumped ahead of him in the pecking order and the Moroccan is in such a rich vein of form that it seems unlikely that he will be dropped any time soon.
Wenger will no doubt have a word with Nicklas over his outburst and it may well result in the striker getting even less regular first team football. This latest outburst is sure to spice things up in the dressing room. The controversial striker already had
an altercation with his fellow Gunner, Emmanual Adeybour.
London rivals Chelsea are long time admirers of the 6ft 5in striker, who possess incredible talent and eye for goal. Frank Arnesen, Chelsea's youth academy director and fellow Dane is particularly keen on swooping for the talented striker. Bendtner signed
a new five-year contract with Arsenal and has scored 38 times for the club in all competitions.
Bendtner is fighting with Chamakh and Robin van Persie for a starting place in Wenger's preferred 4-3-3 formation and the manager admits it is a challenge to keep all three strikers happy.
