Nicklas Dackhammar, Fredrik Bergstrom lead on day six: Delta Lloyd Junior 470 World Championships
Swedish sailors Nicklas Dackhammar and Fredrik Bergström have retained their points lead on Day 6 of Delta Lloyd Junior 470 World Championships in Holland. The pair sailed remarkably to stay on top of 30 sailing teams in the Gold fleet of the championship.
A superb performance by the Greek team comprising of Vasileios Papoutsoglou and John Orfanos stunned the participants, however, the Greeks stayed third overall. Great Britain’s Philip Sparks and David Kohler couldn’t perform up to expectations and tumbled down to number five. On the other hand, the Japanese team comprising of Kazuto Doi and Tetuya Isozaki sailed impressively to make it in top 10.
The conditions weren't ideal and the participants didn't have a smooth sailing, however, there was a light patchy breeze which gave some assistance to their sails. That was enough for the Swedish duo, as they were successful in retaining their lead on Day 6 and are hoping to continue their dominance.
While speaking to the local media after the day’s races, Dackhammar said, “We were second at the first mark but then we gybed away and we ended up losing a lot of places. We didn’t fully have it together for today. Tomorrow it’s the medal race and for us it’s gold or silver. We will just try to keep the French guys behind us.”
