Question:

Nicky Hayden Again. Moto GP?

After todays race I am going to ask the question again...

Are we now going to see a fuel economy race instead of the fastest bike and rider out there.

It seems to me that Nicky could have gone quicker, but the fuel Management system would not allow him to. by running out of fuel so close to the finish. I have to congratulate the Tech guys who mapped the engine. almost perfect. but proves the bike could go quicker. (not as far - But quicker) Is this the right way to develop MotoGP. I do understand the need to keep the bikes speed sensible. but as was pointed out by Neilggti there are limits to what a bike can do, that is not the same as F1 car racing. Bikes will not get to the point of pulling 4 or 5 Gs in a corner. Physics wont allow it. Should the 21 litre rule be dropped, or is it the way to go for safety reasons. and is it an unfair handicap to the heavier rider. or a help to HRCs way of thinking small bike small rider.

  1. Fuel mileage is a retarded component of motorcycle racing. Let em carry whatever they need, it weighs more carrying it around, so that's a detriment for not being fuel efficient.

They also need to put a bike and rider minimum weight back into the rules. Otherwise we'll keep getting 8 year old sized humans riding them, and when the technology trickles down to us we'll be forced to ride ysr50 sized liter bikes.

  2. as much as I like Colin Edwards, I was really pulling for Nicky yesterday to podium.  He really deserved it, running very quick lap times just behind Stoner.

i think we have already seen the fuel economy race, it just hasn't been a deciding factor because of other factors playing a bigger role, such as cc changes, and tyre dominance

  3. It was a d**n shame for Nicky in this race.

He & the team work seemed to work so hard all weekend, they deserved that podium.

I liked his comments on Soups site, saying that him and Colin are now even !!

Speaking of Colin.............. was it just me, or did he get a VERY freindly welcome in Parc Feme from the Marlbora Ducati Team boys ? Lots of hand shakes from the pit men , Casey & more important from Livio Suppo. Smiles and laughing all round.

Good Bye Marco, hello Colin? Colin has sett to sign for 2009..... or has he signed to the boys in red ????

  4. I think it's a bloody ridiculous rule - as for

all this safety poo - am I right in thinking that

their actually riding faster now, than they

were with the smaller engines for example ?

I'm sure I've seen more crashes over the

    past couple of seasons ?

That HRC team have made themselves

look a bunch of **** as far as 'Hasbeen'

is concerned - Pedrobot don't have any

worries, he doesn't have the new engine,

his weight and size has some difference,

but he and Hasbeen raced very close

    together in 06 & 07 - so I'm not so sure

what the technicians are thinking here !!

Maybe it should be accepted as just one

of those things, that Hasbeen reached

    his peak - I dunno ???

  5. Hi proc

I personally like the idea of a fuel limit. This is a cutting edge technical sport where you have to have the best package of man and machine to achieve the results. So a limit, whatever it happens to be (and I wouldn't be adverse to seeing it upped a little), is just another problem for the engineers to solve. It has a commercial value too. Better fuel economy, if its gonna filter down to production machines, lets face it, is something that should be dear to everyones hearts (unless you're an Oil Barron).

I also agree with the minimum weight limit (as mentioned by moolie), as they have in the 125's, with ballast being placed on the bike somewhere. This also gives the engineers something else to think about as well as levelling the playing field, and if placed correctly can give some advantages (as well as disadvantages). Incidentally, if that rule were implemented (which I doubt will happen) I still think little Dani would be just as competitive as he is now.

So to answer your question, then yes, fuel economy will be a major factor in the racing, which for me is not a bad thing.
