Nicky Hayden of Ducati Team progresses with GP11.1 in post race test at Brno – MotoGP news
Ducati Team rider Nicky Hayden tested both version of the Ducati Desmosedici during the post race MotoGP test held at Brno, Czech Republic.
Hayden was seventh on the final time sheet for the test day.
His best shot in the test was 1:57.533 seconds, sitting three spots ahead of his teammate Valentino Rossi. Meanwhile Rossi decided to spend his test day in a different mode while testing the 2012 bike and developing its components.
Initially, Hayden went out with Desmosedici GP11 to get the feel for the basic set up used to develop the newer version called GP11.1. Later in the session, he rode the GP11.1 and instantly got a better feel.
Hayden said, “Everything went pretty well today. We didn’t break any track records or anything, but luckily the rain held off. I did one run this morning with the GP11 just to start from zero and then went straight in on the GP11.1. Like at Laguna, I was
immediately just as fast, but steadily through the day, I was quicker and quicker.”
The American rider completed 78 laps during the complete test day. Previously the comparative testing was held at Laguna Seca. Both Ducati riders used both versions of the Ducati Desmosedici during the race weekend at California.
However, at Laguna Seca, Hayden was not much confident about the GP11.1 and chose to race with GP11. In the following round at Brno, he again used the same version. With his hard work on GP11, he was able to finish seventh in the race at Brno.
Kentucky Kid said, “Once again, the team worked like dogs, between working on my race bikes and preparing for the test. I enjoyed riding the bike, and it’s always nice to see progress and have a good feeling, I plan to ride it at Indy.”
After the Brno GP, he is standing at the seventh position in MotoGP world championship, just behind his compatriot Ben Spies of the Yamaha Factory Racing team. His teammate Valentino Rossi is fourth in the championship.
