Nicky Hayden of Ducati Team undergoes surgery on his injured wrist at California – MotoGP news
Ducati Team rider Nicky Hayden had a surgery on his broken right wrist at Fremont, California.
The surgery was done to speed up the healing process of the broken Scaphoid bone on his wrist. He sustained the fracture during the accident held in Valencia Grand Prix.
Hayden said, “Everything went pretty smoothly. The scaphoid is a slow-healing bone, so you don’t want to wait, only to find out in January that it’s not healing correctly. I’m happy to get it fixed right so that I’ll be ready to go when I need to be.”
The Kentucky Kid was hit by teammate Valentino Rossi during as an aftermath of an incident that was triggered by Alvaro Bautista, the then Suzuki rider.
Bautista mistakenly got in contact with Repsol Honda’s Andrea Dovizioso. The Spanish rider touched the rear end of the Italian rider.
The contact between both riders caused Bautista to vigorously lose his front end and slam into Rossi. The Italian Ducati rider was riding along side Bautista while entering the corner.
After being hit, Rossi ended up hitting Hayden that pushed the Ducati duo into the gravel. The crippling trio also sucked in Randy de Puniet of Pramac Racing.
All the four riders were forced to retire from the 2011 MotoGP season finale event. Except Hayden, all other riders escaped injuries.
The Kentucky rider was then moved to Fremont, California for surgery purposes. His surgery was conducted at Fremont Sports Therapy Centre in California.
His surgeon, Dr. Arthur Ting placed a s***w to fix his broken Scaphoid bone. The other fractures of the bone were not fixed in the procedure.
Following the surgery, he has to take some precautions. He will be wearing a brace and using a bone stimulator for about a month. After the specific time period, his wrist will be x-rayed to recheck his healing status.
Due to the unpleasant accident, he missed the season finale and the injury forced him to miss the crucial official MotoGP test at Valencia. The Ducati Team conducted the test with Valentino Rossi and Franco Battaini.
Hayden completed his 2011 premier class season in eighth position just behind his teammate Rossi, seventh.
