Nicky Hayden of Ducati leads a damp free practice 1 of Aragon – MotoGP news
Nicky Hayden of Ducati leads the free practice 1 session of Spain Grand Prix at damp Aragon.
The practice session had to be delayed for about an hour due to oil spillage over the circuit. The oil spilled over the circuit in the Moto3 practice session. Only 9 drivers went on the circuit due to its dampness.
The Ducati rider registered his fastest lap in 2 minutes and 4.890 seconds with a fastest speed of 318 km/h. He was followed by his teammate Valentino Rossi with a gap of 0.860 seconds. Rossi managed to achieve a top speed of 319.2 km/h. He had told that
he will be testing their new settings at the Aragon circuit.
The third position was attained by Aleix Espargaro of Power Electronics Aspar. He completed his fastest lap with a gap of 2.488 seconds from Hayden. Hector Barbera of Pramac Racing team followed Danilo Petrucci of Came IodaRacing Project at the 5th position
with a gap of 3.816 seconds from Hayden.
The remaining four positions were attained by David Salom of Avintia Blusens, Colin Edwards of NGM Mobile Forward Racing, Yonny Hernandez teammate of Salom and Karel Abraham of Cardion AB Motoracing, respectively.
The fastest speed on the Spanish circuit was achieved by Barbera. He attained a speed of 323 km/h in comparison with the speed of Rossi. Rossi has earlier expressed issues with grip of the front end of his bike.
Going on the circuit with wet patches was risky because the riders were cautious in using wet compounds because such tyres would have degraded in dry areas therefore most of the riders chose to stay in the pits.
Hayden had earlier told that he likes the Aragon circuit due to its layout, but the weather can play an important role tomorrow. It is forecasted that it will be cloudy tomorrow and there are chances of rain as well.
Jorge Lorenzo of Yamaha Factory Racing and Dani Pedrosa of Repsol Honda chose to remain in the pits. Losing the first practice session should not matter much to them because they had an extensive private practice session at the Spanish circuit. Let’s see
whether it will be a damp or wet free practice session 2 at the Aragon circuit.
