Nicky Hayden says free practice session 2 at Laguna Seca was a tough outing – MotoGP news
Nicky Hayden and Valentino Rossi faced difficulties at Laguna Seca during the free practice session 2.
Hayden said that it was great to renew the contract with Ducati team for one more year, but the joys were not long lasting because that very day, during the first practice session he was not giving impressive performance and during the last turn he faced
a problem with the brakes.
Moreover, he said that selection of the tyres is also under question as the hard compound tyres feel a bit too hard whereas the soft tyres feel too soft. He added that they have to select the type of tyres which they are comfortable with, for the US Grand
Prix tomorrow.
Hayden said, “It’s been a tougher day than I was hoping, especially after the great news this morning. In the first session I wasn’t going that great, and then on the last exit we had a problem with the brakes.”
Furthermore, he added that he is not happy with his performance at Laguna Seca, because at Mugello they felt that they were closest and they would be able to compete for long, and they did but a practice session which took one second more than the expected
lap time is alarming.
“We need to stay calm and chip away at it tomorrow,” the American said.
Hayden’s teammate Rossi crashed in the last ten minutes at turn three of the second practice session.
He explained that it happened because of his misjudgement related to the grip of tyre. He added that he expected that he had more grip with the tyres but actually it was not the case.
The Italian rider further added that it happened because of front hard compound tyre and misunderstanding of the temperature of the circuit.
He said, “I crashed ten minutes from the end of the second session and couldn’t use the new soft tyre that we had just put on. It was my mistake.”
Rossi expressed his views about falling on the circuit that it was shameful but he was sliding too much due to the hard rear tyre, he was using, and in trying to improve his lap time. Moreover, he said that it is good that he is safe.
The Italian said that tomorrow they will be using a setting that is most favoured by him.
