Nicky Haydon second quickest behind Rossi (on Qualifiers). 80 laps, straight from Philip Island. where he did a lot of work there. The guy has put so much work into the off season. he should be given a medal of honour. This Guy has earned my respect totally. has any other rider done the same for you during the testing. or are we of the same opinion. I find myself wishing him a good season. maybe even the title !!!! ???

  1. I'm pretty optomistic for him this year. I think that this season will be a bit more intresting that last season. The bikes have had more development time and the riders have had more time to really run the bikes.

  2. i hope he wins it all.  he's got a h**l of a work ethic and the talent to back it up.  i don't like hearing about anyone bad-mouthing this guy.  he was a world champion when no one else had an excuse not to beat him.

  3. its possible. hes doing well now

  4. Hi Proc. As I have publically stated a number of times in the past, I think Nicky Hayden is the rider and more importantly, person in the Moto GP paddock who has impressed me most over the past few years. Initially I was not overly taken with him but I am not a big fan of any of this high fiving, whooping nonsense which a lot of people these days seem to get into it and often seems to come along with many of our sporting friends from America (that is not an anti USA comment either before anyone gets upset, just a personal observation). It turned around for me when he won his title with such class and humility. My God he was a world champion but still there were so many trying to knock him down but he and his family showed such class in handling it. He works absolutely harder than anyone in that paddock and takes it all on his own shoulders.

I did not read the comments Neil mentions about Pedrosa slagging off Nicky's development skills but if they are true then Pedrosa has gone even further down in my esteem. Not that he was very high up in it anyway. He is some kid with a precocious talent that got a lucky break. He has no development background at all and should be showing some public respect to those who do. The likes of Colin Edwards and Nicky Hayden deserve severe kudos for what they do in that arena. One of my all time heroes, Mike Hailwood,  was by his own admission, not a technical guy at all and in essence not much of a developer either. He was a brilliant rider however and that is where Pedrosa is too, though no where near as good as Hailwood was.

I think this year will be the hardest for me to chose a winner on personal favouriteism basis. There is no question that I am a Valentino Rossi fan and have been since the scrawny kid came into 125's all those years ago. I spend all my own money on Ducatis and love to see them stuffing it up the big factories. Colin Edwards is just so d**n cool and deserves some success. Nicky Hayden is just a true class act on all levels and as I say I like the way he gets on with it and doesn't try to disrespect others. Loris Capirossi is just - well he is just Loris and if you don't know what I mean then I can't explain it.

I did not answer your question specifically about what happens during testing as I don't put a lot of notice into it. Every year stories come out of testing that bare little to what happens during the season.

In conclusion I hope Nicky wins races this season and whilst I am not sure if he would be my first choice for the title, I would certainly not be unhappy if he did win it and would happily raise a glass of the local Czech brew here to him in honour of it. In my ideal world Ducati would run NIcky Hayden and Valentino Rossi together, that would be as close to Moto GP mirvana as I can think of right now. As it stands though - Nicky Hayden, top racer, top amabassador for all that is good in Moto GP and all round top bloke.

  5. Rossi will win...Beri Beri Good Chance.

  6. this could very well be his year

    regards x kitti x

  7. I have all the respect and admiration in the world for Nicky Hayden. But all that work and he still doesn't seem to make the improvements you would expect. Maybe thats why Dani Pedrosa was quoted as saying that he's "a little worried" at leaving team-mate Nicky Hayden to develop the new RC212V since "he has not been very beneficial when he has had that responsibility in the past."

Unfortunately for Nicky, hard work alone doesn't win championships.

I really hope he does well this year. He's certainly a great ambassador for the sport, as you've said before.

I just wouldn't put any money on it.

  8. Nicky Hayden actually.   There is no way he is going to be a player in Moto GP this year.  First, he doesn't ride a Ducati and secondly he is nowhere as near a fast as Danni P.  These GP guys are notorious for sandbagging, wait until the season starts, the Nickster will be in the mix, but probably somewhere around 4th or 5th when the season ends.

  9. I must admitt, when he first came over to MotoGP I thought just amother shinney tooth smile and to talent, but over the last 6 months, he has really impressed me also.

In the pre test ( last year ) when Dani hung up his leathers and Nicky went out in the PlSSING rain, I was even more impressed.

Can he be in the title chase this year ............... ? Why not.

Who won everything at the start of the 1992 season ? Doohan. Did he win the Title that year? NO.

You never know what will happen. Im not saying the Nicky needs the top boys to fall off, but the championship is wide open. Tests are tests. Racing is where it count.

Said it once, said it a million times, Roll on 2008 MotoGP!!

  10. Hey Proc

I've said before how much time I have for Mr Haydon, but rather than restate my reasons I will just keep nodding my head to Shuggie's answer as I agree whole heartedly with him - especially the comment about Edwards.

    I can't wait!
