Nicky Henderson describes Simonsig as ‘breathtaking’
Veteran trainer Nicky Henderson is pleased with the preparation of his challenger Simonsig, who is definitely amongst the best horses of the modern era and has been entertaining horseracing fans across the globe.
The seven-year-old gelding appeared in a pre-festival gallop at Lambourn and gave a stunning performance against some of the best horses in the business, such as Grandouet, Megalypos and Tistory. No one was able to challenge him in the event, as he took
the top spot comfortably by a couple of lengths.
According to Henderson, “Simonsig is always a flashy worker here; he's breathtaking isn't he? By the look of things, Grandouet probably needed this work more than others. I'll probably do a little bit more with him and a few others here on Friday. It's too
late by then to be having away days to a racecourse.”
Racing Post's Lambourn correspondent Rodney Masters was also impressed and said, “They all worked well enough, it was just that Simonsig sent the wow factor spinning off in the region of Didcot power station's towering chimneys. Newmarket had Frankel. Lambourn
has Simonsig.”
Simonsig has managed to maintain a very good strike rate over the years and he does not fear his rivals at all. He debuted in 2011 and there has been no stopping him since that time period.
Overall, he has participated in a total of eight races and succeeded in seven of them. There was only one occasion where he failed to claim the top spot, but the result was still not a bad one for him, as he ended up as a runner up.
Other than being an excellent jumper, he has got terrific speed too, which allows him to dominate the rest of the field on most of the times. He does not settle for anything less than perfection, thus trains extremely hard with his team.
Before the pre-festival gallop, Fair Mix’s son raced in 2012 and his performances that season were stunning. He managed to win five consecutive contests and showed superiority over all of his opponents. He will be expecting to deliver some similar sort of
show this year too.
