Nicky Henderson secures ground in the Hennessy Gold Cup with Bobs Worth
The one to look out for sure in the Hennessy Gold Cup is the Nicky Henderson conditioned, Bobs Worth. Winning the 2012 edition of the race will make it a second time success for the trainer. The seven-year-old tops the list for those contestants who have the highest of the chances to end up as success stories of the race. Last time when he was successful over the trip was with, Trabolgan, in 2005.
Nicky Henderson has trained winners long enough to know when which horse can bring him back the honour of a title and the winner’s prize money.
Henderson, successful with Trabolgan in 2005, said: "He has the same profile as Trabolgan in that he's a young horse coming through and this will be his first test against the older horses."
However, the level of competition this time might not be identical to the one against which the Nicky Henderson trained won the contest in 2005.
The race will be the third outing for Bob Back’s bay gelding who first scored second in the seasonal debut, and then struck the winner’s prize money in the very next race.
The Irish bay gelding was denied the Grade 2 Sodexo Prestige Reynoldstown Novices’ Chase by the mark of three lengths on 18th February, 2012 at Ascot race course over three miles.
The race was won by, Invictus, who had jockey, Robert Thornton, onboard.
Bobs Worth then went all out in the Grade 1 RSA Chase on 14th March, 2012 at Cheltenham over three miles and half a furlong. He was accompanied over the trip by, Barry Geraghty, and the two defeated First Lieutenant, by 2 ½ lengths.
The trainer is highly likely to cover ground with Roberto Goldback and Burton Port. Both are talented and capable in their own ways.
Ever since 2003, trainer, Paul Nicholls, has won the race three times. In 2009 and 2007, he won it with Denman while the 2003 edition made way to his stable through Strong Flow.
The two top trainers had always had a neck-to-neck competition, and this race is going to be no different as neither will walk away without a fair battle.
