Nicky Henderson still undecided on Sprinter Sacre’s fate
Sprinter Sacre’s trainer, Nicky Henderson, is still sitting on the fence whether to launch Sprinter Sacre in the Sky Bet Mobile For iPphone Lightning Novices' Chase on Saturday at Doncaster, or put him on for next month’s high-profile event of Game
Spirit, for which the horse is being sent off as the hot favourite.
Henderson has to pick one out of Sprinter Sacre and Kid Cassidy for the Doncaster clash, but he seems to be rather confused to reach a final decision as he does not want to take any risks.
As Sprinter Sacre has been regarded as a top favourite runner for the mega event at Newbury on February 11, his trainer wants him to rest and undergo training sessions instead of taking part in any tough race in the intervening time.
Henderson told:
“Either Sprinter Sacre or Kid Cassidy will run, but not both. Sprinter Sacre worked this morning and he's very fit and very well. He'll either run at Doncaster, but we're also toying with the Game Spirit (at Newbury on February 11).”
He added:
“I might be at Doncaster as I could have a few there. Shakalakaboomboom will run in the Sky Bet Chase, and Osric could go there or Cheltenham. I probably need to get Shakalakaboomboom up 2lb to make sure he gets in the Grand National. I'll also run
Broadbackbob and First In The Queue at Cheltenham."
In his short career, Sprinter Sacre has established himself as a potential racer by beating the Champion Hurdle runner-up, Peddlers Cross.
The young horse started his career on February 20, 2010. Among his 8 races so far, he has won 6, two of each, NHF, Hurdle and Chase events. His total earnings are £47,582.
This success streak is evident of the horse’s outstanding racing skills, which will definitely help him thrive in his Game Spirit campaign.
Henderson has always been over-cautious about his horses, avoiding taking hasty decisions.
This is the secret of his success and he is doing the same this time, as he thinks that unleashing Sprinter Sacre at Doncaster may prove to be harmful for the form the horse has gathered for the February event.
