Nicky Henderson’s Cheney Manor shows promise at Newbury for the Rickety Bridge Handicap Chase
Newbury will be hosting the Rickety Bridge Handicap Chase (In Aid Of West Berkshire Mencap) on 2nd March, 2012. The race will be cover a distance of 2 miles and 4 furlongs for a purse of £3,054.
The 10 runners competing in this race are:
Plein Pouvoir,
Betabob,
Cottage Acre,
Roi De Rose,
Cabinet Minister,
Ballyallia Man,
Cheney Manor,
French Ties,
Douryna, and
The Boss.
Ballyallia Man, son of Flemensfirth, out of Hatch Away, finished in fourth place in his first race of 2012.
He did not keep up his pace and soon fell behind in the Zenergi Novices’ Chase, at Newbury, on 18th January, 2012.
Tom George, his trainer,  was impressed with his next race as the 7-year-old gelding succeeded over Suburban Bay by 1 and a ¼ length, in the Automate Your Betting With Betangel Beginner’s Chase, at Southwell, on 15th February, 2012.
French Ties, son of John French, out of No Ties, is a tough competitor, much to the satisfaction of his owner, Alan Baxter and his trainer, Jennie Candlish.
The 10-year-old gelding finished as a runner-up as he was defeated by O Crotaigh by 5 lengths, in the Dine At The Whistle And Flute Handicap Chase (Betfair Chase Series Qualifier), at Market Rasen, on 22nd January, 2012.
The Boss, son of Accordion, out of Danjo’s Lady, will making his seasonal debut in this race.
The 7-year-old gelding, trained by Jeremy Scott, finished as a runner-up in the Powersolve Electronics Greatwood Charity Handicap Chase, at Newbury, on 14th December, 2011. He was defeated by race favourite Back Bob Back by 7 lengths.
Cabinet Minister, trained by Warren Greatrex, finished 4th in his seasonal debut.
The son of Bob Back, out of Black Spring, led but soon blundered and lost his pace in the Thermolast Roofing LTD Handicap Chase, which was held at Hereford, on 8th January, 2012.
Cheney Manor, son of Piccolo, out of One For Philip, looks promising. His trainer, Nicky Henderson, is hoping that the 7-year-old gelding will bring his best game forward.
He finished as a runner-up in his seasonal debut, as he was defeated by Global Flyer by 13 lengths in the Sid Jeffcoate – Celebrating A Lifetime In Racing Novices’ Handicap Chase, at Huntingdon, on 4th January, 2012.
He looked steady in his most recent race as he was chasing the leaders. He stumbled badly and unseated his jockey, which is why he could not complete the race the Mirror Punters Club Maiden Chase, which was held at Folkestone, on 31st January,
2012.
Ballyallia Man is the race favourite and has the winning odds of 3 to 1.
Cheney Manor shows promise and he is likely to finish in second place whereas the third place is likely to be acquired by The Boss.
