Nico Hulkenberg believes Sauber potential will unleash in the next two races – Formula 1 news
Sauber driver Nico Hulkenberg has said that it will be too early to express anything about their updates and believes that their performance in the next two races will unleash their true potential.
The Hinwil based squad emerged as one of the most competent midfield contenders during the last season and they impressed everyone with their pace. However, they have struggled a lot with their pace in the season so far and have remained unable to score
competitive points with consistency. According to their team principal, Monisha Kaltenborn, they were facing immense problems due to lack of funds and sponsors. She also even requested F1 to help the smaller teams which was let down by the chief executive
officer, Bernie Ecclestone who insisted that he has to treat everyone equally.
Nevertheless, the Swiss team has recently signed partnership agreements with three Russian companies after which their financial issues have been resolved.
The German driver has asserted that although they have been able to get some good investment by their new sponsors to make the necessary developments for the season ahead. However, he insisted that they will have to wait until the next two races in order
to find out their true potential.
“There might be a few other reasons why we looked stronger at the Nurburgring,” said Hulkenberg when asked by AUTOSPORT about the competitive situation.
“We scored a point there on merit, and could have done better, but the Nurburgring was similar to Shanghai - it was a front-limited circuit,” he said.
“Our performance might be linked to that. We won't know the real answer until the next couple of races,” he added.
At present, he is standing at 15th place in the drivers’ championship and has only been able to score 7 points in the season until now. Moreover, he is ahead of Pastor Maldonado of Williams and behind Daniel Ricciardo of Toro Rosso.
It will be exciting to see how the veteran driver performs in the season ahead and whether he will be able to come up to the expectations of his team and fans or not.
