Nico Hulkenberg eager to join Force India
Young German driver Nico Hulkenberg stepped into the world of Formula 1 after joining Williams. Nico began his rookie season this March and at first, he seemed like just another driver who joined Formula 1 just to try and not achieve anything. However, at
the Brazilian Grand prix, Nico Hulkenberg scored a pole position in dry conditions and on top of that, he scored the second fastest time lap.
It was quite an impressive performance but unfortunately, Williams decided to replace him with Pastor Maldonado, the GP2 champion of 2010. Many critics believe that the team chose him over Nico Hulkenberg just because of the fact that the Venezuelan driver
was bringing a major sponsor from PDVSA along with his deal.
Nico has still not given up though as he believes that he can still make it on the Formula 1 grid for 2011 and claims that he is currently in talks with Force India about it.
Other than Renault, Force India is the only team that has established itself in such a short amount of time and since Renault strongly hinted that they will keep Vitaly Petrov for the 2011 Formula 1 season, Force India is the best option for him.
“The hope is still there and I am not giving up. I hope I can give you a positive answer very soon. Hopefully before Christmas, the team might declare their decision. We are talking to them and let’s wait and see what develops,” declared Nico Hulkenberg.
Both Adrian Sutil and Tonio Liuzzi have not been confirmed by Force India for the 2011 Formula 1 season but they are considered as strong contenders for the two spots as well. Paul di Resta, the team’s reserve driver is also hoping to earn a spot as a full
season driver but one has to wait to find out what Vijay Mallaya and his squad has in their minds.
“Force India is our best shot, but it is also no secret that quite a few drivers are trying to land a seat there,” said Hulkenberg in an interview.
Nico hopes to stay in Formula 1 for 2011 as a full time driver rather than a reserve driver. By the looks of it, he might just find a spot with Force India keeping in mind his pole position performance in a mid, running Williams in dry conditions.
