Nico Hulkenberg eyes future with Ferrari – Formula 1 news
Force India driver Nico Hulkenberg has signalled that he is eying his future with Ferrari and expressed that he wants to become a world champion one day.
Hulkenberg has been considered as one of the most talented drivers in the world of F1. He performed convincingly well with Force India during the last season and joined Sauber as Sergio Perez’s replacement in this year. However, he has struggled a lot with
his pace in the season so far as compared to the last year because of lesser competitive car.
He has expressed that they have not been able to attain the expected results in the first five races of the season because of some issues in their development process.
“We are behind where we expected, and not producing the results we wanted,” he said.
It will be important to note that after the assertion of Ferrari president, Luca di Montezemolo, the 25-year-old has been linked with a move to the Scarlet team in the future.
“I am very curious to see how Hulkenberg goes with our engine at Sauber,” Montezemolo said.
However, the veteran German driver said that he can’t tell anything about the intentions of the Italian squad regarding offering him a race seat in the future. Besides, he said that his aim is to drive with a big team, to challenge for victories and to become
a world champion. He also said that he is keeping the doors open to work with any bigger team in the coming years.
“I don't know -- you'll have to ask them,” he explained.
“These are the early days of the season, but I do want to get back to winning races and challenging, and to be champion one day. To do that you have to be in a big team. The future is open and you have to do the best you can with the car you have every weekend,”
he added.
He is currently standing at 14th place in the drivers’ championship with 5 points. Moreover, he is ahead of Jean-Eric Vergne of Toro Rosso and behind his major rival, Adrian Sutil of Force India. Let’s see how he shows up at Circuit de Monaco in Monte Carlo
this weekend.
