Nico Hulkenberg feels hopeful despite a poor start to 2013 – Formula 1 news
Sauber driver Nico Hulkenberg has said that although they have not been able to take a good start in the 2013 Formula 1 season, but he believes they still have time to make improvements to score competitive points.
Hulkenberg has been considered as one of the most talented drivers in the field. He performed convincingly well with Force India during the last season and managed to attain some really good results. He joined the Hinwil based team in this season as Sergio
Perez’s replacement with great hopes to make his mark even stronger as a driver. However, he has not been able to come up to the expectation of his team in the season until now.
The German driver has expressed that they are surely not happy with their performance in the first four rounds of the season. Nevertheless, he expressed that there is still a lot of come and they are looking forward to make the most out of their development
process in the season ahead in order to compete well with their rivals and to attain good results.
“We are obviously not happy, neither myself nor the team,” he told Motorsport-Magazin.
“But the season is still long and we certainly are not going to write it off. You just have to be patient sometimes,” he said. “There are many other drivers out there who had to wait long for their time to come.”
Besides, he backed up his teammate, Esteban Gutierrez who was penalised because of his crash with Adrian Sutil in the Chinese GP. He stated that Gutierrez is a new driver in the sport and will hopefully perform well after gaining a little bit experience.
“Esteban is a rookie and everything is new to him the same way it was for me in 2010 at Williams. He will gain experience and will surely become even better,” he added.
Currently, 25-year-old is standing at 14th place in the drivers’ championship with 5 points and is ahead of his major opponent, Jean-Eric Vergne of Toro Rosso. It will be interesting to see how he performs in the season ahead.
