Nico Hulkenberg hails top three of the 2012 F1 season – Formula 1 news
Nico Hulkenberg, who is moving to the Sauber F1 team in the 2013 F1 season, has stated that all top three drivers of the 2012 F1 season; Red Bull’s Sebastian Vettel, Ferrari’s Fernando Alonso and Lotus F1’s Kimi Raikkonen, gave a great performance.
“Alonso and Vettel fought for the title until the last race and did a great job,” Hulkenberg told Brazil’s Totalrace. “You cannot tell which was the best. Both took everything from the car, and so did Kimi, who did a great championship after two years out.”
The 2012 F1 season was the repeat of the rivalry between Vettel and Alonso from the season of 2010 but only with the odds reversed in Vettel’s favour. The championship fight was taken right until the final race in Brazil just like it had happened in 2010
but this time Vettel was in a strong lead unlike before.
In 2010, Vettel had won his first title by taking the lead only in the season finale. However, this year, Vettel entered the race with a thirteen point lead over Alonso and won despite his sixth finish as compared to the Ferrari driver’s second. Vettel has
now become the youngest triple champion and Red Bull racing the fourth team in F1 history to win the constructors’ championship three times in a row.
Alonso secured the second place in the drivers’ championship with being three points behind the Red Bull driver. Majority of the F1 community has voted the Spanish driver as the best and the most deserving driver of the season. Ferrari successfully overtook
McLaren to secure the second place on the constructors’ grid.
Securing the third place in the championship was Raikkonen who had returned after a two-year gap. The Finnish driver enjoyed a very consistent season as he completed all the twenty races and scored in 19 of them. He won the Abu Dhabi Grand Prix which was
a victory for him after a long time and scored 207 championship points at the end of the season.
Hulkenberg’s own season was a reasonable one with Force India. He will be partnering new F1 driver, Esteban Gutierrez, at Sauber and is most likely going to lead the team.
