Nico Hulkenberg hopeful to seal the deal with Force India
The former Williams’ driver, Nico Hulkenberg has finally admitted that he does not hope to find a seat with any other team but Force India, which is his now his last and the only hope to stay on the Formula One grid for the 2011
season.
The rookie driver performed pretty well all through the season and was finally able to end the season gloriously after claiming the first pole position of his career at Interlagos, while performing brilliantly at the qualifying
ahead of the Brazilian Grand Prix. However, nothing helped the driver to secure his seat with the team, as he had to leave his place to accommodate the new GP2 champion, Pastor Maldonado. The Venezuelan driver was preferred over the German for he brought heavy
sponsorship with him, and had the support of his government, something that Hulkenberg still lacks.
Although, the 23-year-old’s manager, Willi Weber, stayed positive all through the last month hoping to be able to adjust the driver at a nice place, but only last week he declared that Force India is the only team with which discussions
are taking place. Still, Weber said that he is not only happy, but also positive to get the desired outcome, and finally being able to get something for the driver to do next season.
Now, only a little while back, the German driver expressed a lot of optimism as he admitted talks with the Indian squad, further adding that he is looking forward to conclude a deal "before Christmas".
While talking to the media, the driver exclaimed, "That's no big secret -- Force India is our best shot, but it is also no secret that quite a few drivers are trying to land a seat there. We are talking to them and let's wait and
see what develops.”
Most of the Formula One teams have already announced their drivers’ line-up, and almost all the leading teams and even most of the new teams are also keeping the last year’s line-up once again. With this, all the drivers that are
still looking for a team are left with only little options and there is a lot of competition.
The driver sadly added that it was very depressing to see Formula One’s good teams preferring money over talent. However, he concluded saying, "Of course, there had been signs before that there was something brewing, because the
team repeatedly delayed contract talks, putting it off to 'manana'. From the outside it is obviously hard to understand, but there must have been circumstances within the team that required such a step."
