Nico Hulkenberg hoping to secure a race seat at Force India for 2012 Formula 1 season
Force India’s current test driver Nico Hulkenberg has said that he is aiming for a full season race seat at the team for the 2012 Formula 1 season as he hopes to get back on the racing track.
“It's difficult to know, this is the ninth race so we are midseason. I'm working hard to try and convince the key people here and Vijay [Mallya] and to make a good impression. I think we are still a bit too far away from that decision,” he told the media.
After a spectacular debut season, the young German struggled to find a full season race seat as he was replaced by Pastor Maldonado at Williams after which he had no choice but to join Force India as a test driver.
Hulkenberg secured a pole position in an average Williams car at the Brazilian Grand Prix of the 2010 Formula 1 season which was extremely impressive keeping in mind that it was his debut season in the sport.
The team however was going through some financial crisis at that time as a result of which they needed a good driver with a good sponsor. Pastor Maldonado brought a major sponsor from PDVSA as a part of his deal and was given the racing seat.
Since then though, Hulkenberg has been driving for Force India during most of the Friday Practice sessions as well and it seems that the team is happy with his performance up until now as well.
“I've done every Friday apart from Monaco, which is obviously good and important for me,” he said. “I have to stick in here and get the practice and practical running and stay in Formula One to build something up for next year.”
The young German is pretty much clear though that he needs a race seat for the 2012 Formula 1 season and if Force India do not provide him with it, then he would go for a plan B and probably consider other options.
