Nico Hulkenberg says Force India can improve as the season progresses – Formula 1 news
Nico Hulkenberg has said that Force India has the momentum required to move up the ranks in the 2012 season.
Force India has shown betterment in since 2010 and are showing more and more improvement as it is getting more exposure and experience in the F1 arena.
The team came 7th in the Constructors’ Championship in 2010 and then went on to improve that performance by coming in 6th the following year.
The team is now targeting at least a 5th place finish or higher in the current season. Force India does have the resources to fulfil that goal. Hulkenberg has shown good pace and promise so far but yet to have materialise that potential.
Force India have not had a good season so far relative to its competitors like Sauber and Williams. Hulkenberg feels that once he gets a clear race the team will be right back on track.
“Yes, the momentum is still there,” Hulkenberg said. “It's still too early to draw any final conclusions. Remember that my first race ended at turns one and the second one was in messy conditions, so I can't really say how strong we are yet. Let's wait another
few races and we will know more, especially from our performances from Barcelona onwards when our new aero updates will be crucial. I think we have a car with potential, now it's our job to extract that!”
He added that the team knew they were one of the strongest while the team also had the knowledge that other teams were hiding their pace. That is why podium finishes were not expected at the team camp. The main objective is to be closer to the midfields
and that is where the team is at the moment.
It will be interesting to see how Force India manage to improve on its previous year’s performances, as Sauber and Williams notably have picked up their games and are proving much better this season. While Lotus look very impressive but have yet to prove
their mettle in the season.
The next race is in China scheduled for April 15, 2012.
