Nico Hulkenberg says Sauber needed investment to move forward – Formula 1 News
Sauber driver Nico Hulkenberg has said that they really needed the funds to move forward and welcomed the investment from the Russian companies.
The team principal of the Hinwil based squad, Monisha Kaltenborn expressed earlier that they were going through very difficult time as they didn’t have the require money to make the necessary developments in their car. She even
requested F1 to help the smaller teams for the overall goodwill of the sport. However, the chief executive officer of F1, Bernie Ecclestone asserted that he cannot bail out Sauber as he has to treat every team equally.
Nevertheless, the Swiss squad have recently signed a new deal with three Russian companies which will provide them the funds and sponsorship to make the essential advancements in their car to compete well in the season ahead.
Hulkenberg has stated that he is very pleased to hear the news of their partnership with the Russian investors and they can now surely make some significant step-ups for the forthcoming races.
“It was positive news and it was needed,” Hulkenberg said.
“With new investors and money you can push more and develop harder and stronger and the direction is forward. That's clear,” he added.
Besides, he said that the lack of money didn’t affect his on-track performance in the recent races. Furthermore, he said that despite the shortage of funds, he has always tried his best to extract the most from their update package
in the season so far.
“I didn't have all the details. That was the management's situation. I knew that we didn't have a budget like the top teams but beyond that I was focusing on getting the best out of the package we have and get the most out of that,”
he added.
Currently, the German driver is standing at 15th place in the drivers’ championship with 7 points. In addition, he is ahead of Pastor Maldonado of Williams and behind the Toro Rosso drivers, Daniel Ricciardo and Jean-Eric
Vergne.
It will be interesting to see how he performs in the Hungarian Grand Prix which is to be held at Hungaroring on July 28, 2013.
