Nico Hulkenberg says grip at FP2 of Belgian Grand Prix was very low – Formula 1 news
Nico Hulkenberg of Force India said that the grip at Spa during free practice 2 of Belgian Grand Prix was very low. He told that the standing water would have caused a red flag during the practice session.
He said that driving there was tricky. He added that the grip was low and just before Eau Rouge there was a lot of standing water and a puddle. Furthermore, he said that the water could have caused aquaplaning therefore, it was not easy to drive in those
conditions.
Hulkenberg told ESPNF1, “Obviously the grip was very low and especially just before Eau Rouge there was so much water and a big puddle and a lot of aquaplaning, so it's not so comfortable to drive through Eau Rouge in those conditions.”
Furthermore, he said that there was a lot of water in Blanchimont as well and it was not possible that tyres could perform well in such conditions. He added that it was unsafe to drive in such conditions.
Moreover, he said that the standing water would have caused a red flag in the race. He added that he was frustrated that time provided to race was limited as Spa is one of his favourite tracks. He added that it did not feel great to wait in garage for the
rain to stop as Spa is the favourite track for many drivers.
“Overall also in Blanchimont there was too much water and the tyres couldn't cope with it. It was just too much standing water and at the end of the day it's unsafe to run and doesn't make sense to either,” the German driver said.
He completed his fastest lap during FP 2 at Belgian GP in 2 minutes and 59.125 seconds against his 2 minutes and 16.786 seconds in free practice 1. Weather forecast for Saturday when FP3 and qualifying round are scheduled is dry and it would remain the same
on Sunday as well.
It would be interesting to see the drivers driving on a tricky circuit with beautiful landscapes around, however in case of rain the results could get adversely affected and only the lucky driver would get a chance to make his way through.
