Nico Hulkenberg says he is feeling happier in Sauber C32 – Formula 1 news
Sauber driver Nico Hulkenberg has said that he is feeling happier in C32 after the second day of testing at Circuit de Catalunya in Barcelona.
Hulkenberg seemed very comfortable behind the wheel of his car on Day Two of the second pre-season test. He covered 88 laps and set the ninth best time of 1 minute and 24.205 seconds.
The German driver expressed great delight after Wednesday testing and said that he gathered considerable amount of data which can be used by the team to make further advancements in their car.
Moreover, he said that he is very happy with the overall development of his car and is looking forward to get the most out of the remaining pre-season testing programme so as to take a good start in this season.
Besides, he said that the competition is going to be very tough in this season and they have to keep on making the essential developments in their car in order to compete well with their rivals.
“For me, it's getting happy in the car,” Hulkenberg said. “More mileage makes you happier in the car, more comfortable with the buttons, with the steering wheel. Because once you get racing, that really wants to be glued in your head.”
“That's what we're here for (and) then understanding the car further - trying to extract performance, opening up the areas where we can improve. We need to be developing: which road we need to go down and these kind of things,” he said.
Even though, he said that they have managed to build a competent car for this season, but there is still some room for improvement for which they have to work harder.
“It's not too bad. (There's) still work to be done and I think there's still room for improvement,” he added.
The Hinwil based squad emerged as the strongest midfield contender during the preceding season. However, their drivers, Sergio Perez and Kamui Kobayashi failed to attain competitive results on consistent basis. Let’s see how they show up with their new driver
line-up which includes Hulkenberg and the rookie, Esteban Gutierrez in this year’s championship.
