Nico Hulkenberg says he will have to race to get the hang of the Pirellis’ – Formula 1 news
Nico Hulkenberg says that getting the hang of the Pirelli tyres is going to play an important role for him in his bid for a successful 2012 season.
Hulkenberg replaced Adrian Sutil to claim the Force Indian race seat for the 2012 season. Prior to his promotion he was a reserve driver for the same team.
Force India has been showing a lot of improvement since it came into Formula 1 back in 2008. They came seventh in the constructors’ championship standing in 2010 and improved that performance to sixth in the 2011 season.
Consistent performances and hard work has been key for the team to achieve this feat and for their 2012 season they made a big decision to drop Adrian Sutil who had been with the team since its debut and performed quite well for them. In comes Hulkenberg
to fill in and straightway will need all the experience he can get to get a hang of all that is a Formula 1.
When Hulkenberg last raced F1 used the Bridgestone tyres, with the Pirelli tyres being introduced in 2011. The rubber compound has been praised by most for their pace and durability but not all the drivers have been able to adjust to the change.
Although Hulkenberg has had some experience with the tyres in practice run during the 2011 season, the driver says that he will only understand the full characteristics of the compound when he races on them.
“It will be tough, but I went through that process last year with Williams as well," Hulkenberg said. “I don't know exactly how the Pirelli tyres will behave so I will make sure that I get all of the information I need to learn quickly. You need to get out
there and do the races so that you can learn about them. On a theoretical basis, there is not so much that you can do.”
"I know everyone in the team and all of the engineers, but I haven't worked as closely with them as I will as a race driver,” he further added.
It would be interesting to see how well Hulkenberg adjusts to the Pirelli tyres, he will have to in any way as there will not be much room for experimenting during the season.
