Nico Hulkenberg says he wished for podium in 2012 Belgian Grand Prix – Formula 1 news
Force India driver Nico Hulkenberg has said that he wished for a podium in the 2012 Belgian Grand Prix but he was pleased with his fourth place finish.
Hulkenberg performed impressively well in the preceding race held at Circuit de Spa-Francorchamps and secured fourth place finish after taking a start from 11 grid position. He was at third place after the first lap of the race and later overtook Kimi Raikkonen.
Moreover, he took two pit stops as he set off on hard tyres while Jenson Button of McLaren and Sebastian Vettel of Red Bull Racing only went to the pits for once. Resultantly, he lost some crucial time which caused him to lose his position.
Although, he came 4th but he expressed that he is very much delighted with his performance and all the efforts which his team has made. In addition, he said that their two-pit stop strategy was successful for them.
“It's been quite an exciting race and better result,” he said. “It was quite eventful; starting with start with a lot of cars and parts flying around. I had quite poor start which was maybe good afterwards because I was quite far back and took advantage
quite nicely.”
“I was up high as second and for while I was even thinking we could finish on podium. But race was tough; I had some great fights with Kimi and Michael, and I was always on limit. For us it was clear that we had to stop twice and we made strategy work,”
he added.
Besides, he said that they are extremely happy with their performance until now and are confidently looking forward to keep on scoring valuable points in the forthcoming races so as to secure a competitive place in the championship fight.
At present, the German driver is standing at 13th position in the drivers’ championship with 31 points. Additionally, he is ahead of Pastor Maldonado of Williams and is behind Kamui Kobayashi of Sauber.
Currently, the Silverstone based team is making the best preparations and is hoping to come up even stronger in the Italian GP.
