Nico Hulkenberg says that Sauber decision was difficult to make – Formula 1 news
Nico Hulkenberg of Force India has admitted that the decision to move to Sauber F1 for next year’s season had not been easy to make.
Sauber F1 confirmed the driver for the 2013 season this week. Hulkenberg has been driving for Force India for two years with the first year being as a reserve driver. The team had offered the driver to remain with them but he made his decision about moving
to Sauber F1 despite the fact that Force India has been performing better than the other this season. Force India has been successful at making 47 points against 36 points of Sauber since the summer break of this season. However, Sauber remains ahead of Force
India on the constructors’ grid.
Hulkenberg’s teammate Paul di Resta has not supported his decision referring to the competition on the constructors’ grid and insisting that Force India has been more consistent. The driver says he made the decision in light of Sauber’s four podium standings
this year although it had been a difficult one.
“It wasn't an easy decision, first of all,” Hulkenberg said. “Sauber has made a good development over the last couple of years and especially this year they have been very strong for podiums and missed a win by a very narrow margin. But obviously I wouldn't
have made the decision if I thought it wasn't the right one.”
Looking forward to Abu Dhabi Grand Prix taking place this weekend, Hulkenberg is positive about the track.
“This track is more low-speed and is more similar to Singapore and in Singapore we looked quite competitive. I think we can have three very good races until the end of the year and I think we can challenge for points,” he added.
Hulkenberg has been successful at scoring 18 points in the last three races and has no doubt that he can carry on in the same fashion for the rest of the season. He insists that Sauber might be his future team but he is still committed to his current team
and will keep himself competitive against rival teams until the end of the season.
