Nico Hulkenberg signed by Sauber F1 for 2013 season – Formula 1 news
The Sauber F1 team has signed Force India driver Nico Hulkenberg as their driver for the 2013 Formula 1 season.
Hulkenberg signed a one-year deal with Sauber to replace their driver Sergio Perez who will be joining the McLaren team next year. Sauber F1 has been able to perform really well this season as they stand at sixth position in the constructors’ championship
with 116 points.
The team principal, Monisha Kaltenborn, stated that they have had their sights on Hulkenberg for quite a while now and that his performances were able to impress them. She added that the driver is as good at Formula 1 as he was in the GP2.
“I'm really looking forward to working with the Sauber F1 Team,” Hulkenberg said after confirming the deal. “It's a well-placed team and very competitive. Plus it's a team in which young drivers have repeatedly delivered exceptional performances. I would
like to take up that baton. It's currently going through a very positive development and I'm certain that together we can achieve a lot. Until that time I will remain fully focused on my job with Force India. I'd like to thank the management there for giving
me the chance to return to Formula One as a team driver.”
Kaltenborn added that she has confidence in Hulkenberg that he is completely able of continuing Sauber’s good performance in the future. She thinks that managing team work is a not an easy thing but she trusts the Force India driver in that regard too. She
is hopeful that their decision will be fruitful and that Hulkenberg will manage well with the whole team.
Sauber has stated that an announcement regarding their decision about the second driver for next season can be expected on a later occasion. This leaves a lot of uncertainty around the current driver Kamui Kobayashi. The driver has been looking to bring
in some sponsorship behind him as to maintain his current position with the team.
Hulkenberg and Force India teammate Paul di Resta are determined to fight for points in the remaining three races of the season so as to beat Sauber’s sixth position on the constructors’ grid.
