Nico Rosberg: 2011 Monaco Grand Prix could be more exciting than ever before – Formula 1 news
Mercedes GP driver Nico Rosberg has said that the 2011 Monaco Grand Prix might be the most exciting race at the venue ever due to the new regulations introduced by the International Automobile Federation (FIA).
With the new fast degrading Pirelli tyres, the factor of a race strategy is going to make the race more unpredictable while the Kinetic Energy Recovery System and Drag Reduction System are going to increase the overtaking rate as well as they have at almost
all of the races up until now.
Even at the Spanish Grand Prix where it was believed that the DRS and KERS might not be as effective as they had been in the first four races of the season, both of the devices proved to be quite handy for the drivers. During the race, most of the overtaking
took place in the DRS zone.
“This year the race has the potential to be more exciting than ever. If KERS and the DRS do make overtaking possible, it will be great for the fans,” said Rosberg.
Monte Carlo is one of those circuits that have not been changed much since their inauguration and since it is the tightest track on the Formula 1 calendar, it is quite challenging for all of the teams.
Even though Nico Rosberg is from Germany, he was raised in Monaco due to which the Monaco Grand Prix is very special for him.
“The Monaco Grand Prix is always a thrilling weekend for me. It's my home race and to drive in front of my family and my friends is always very special. My old school is actually right next to the paddock! I also really love driving the circuit as you have
to drive very aggressively but also be so precise,” he said.
His teammate Michael Schumacher is also hoping for some good results this weekend as he recently secured his best result of the season up until now after he finished in 6th place at the Spanish Grand Prix.
