Nico Rosberg: Barcelona is history, looking forward to Monaco on supersoft tyres – Formula 1 news
Mercedes’ Formula 1 driver Nico Rosberg has said that the Spanish Grand Prix was a bad result for him because he could only manage a 7th position.
The German added that the Spanish Grand Prix was over and he was very much looking forward to the Monaco Grand Prix of the 2011 Formula 1 season.
Talking about the Barcelona race and its result, the German added, “To cry over spilled milk is not my style, so I am all focused on this weekend’s race - and so far it is looking very promising. The car is very nicely glued to the track and I feel very
comfortable.”
Nico finished the first two Free Practice sessions of the Monaco Grand Prix on a high note as he ended both sessions as the third fastest driver on the grid. Moreover, he comprehensively beat his teammate Michael Schumacher in both sessions.
Talking about his Free Practice run, Nico stated, “The car is really working well, especially in a fast single lap, so it is definitely a situation to build on. We have been working really hard with many set-up changes to finally get close to where we want
to be.”
The Mercedes’ car was reported to be struggling on the harder compound in the previous five races which was obvious because both Rosberg and Schumacher were struggling to get a grip on the hard Pirelli tyres.
However, with the soft Pirelli compound, Mercedes were a much better car and produced some fast laps. For the Monaco Grand Prix, Pirelli has brought the supersoft compound tyres and Nico said that they are working pretty well with their car.
Rosberg added that Mercedes’ one lap speed has improved dramatically coming from the Spanish Grand Prix which could play well in the qualifiers on Saturday.
The German also pointed out that the Pirelli degradation is less than expected because of the nature of the track so there will not be a lot of pitstops.
The Formula 1 teams will battle it out in the qualifiers on Saturday, May 28, 2011.
