Nico Rosberg: Mercedes GP on a ‘roll’ – Formula 1 Update
Mercedes GP’s Nico Rosberg is confident that his team is going to put in a good performance during the first race of the 2011 Formula 1 season that is expected to start in Australia on 27
March, 2011. Nico scored the fastest time of the last day of the final pre-season test session that took place in a rainy Barcelona.
His team-mate Michael Schumacher scored the fastest time of the week on the fourth day of the session in dry conditions while using a low-fuel load with the super-soft tyre compound. Rosberg on the other hand was unable to beat his team-mate’s time, as the
team had to test their respective cars on a wet track.
Nico revealed that the team has made some positive changes to its’ new car, that has definitely helped in achieving the goals for the final pre-season test session.
“We have made a lot of progress over the four tests this winter and it's really nice to see that things are going in the right direction. We are on the up for sure, and all credit to the team for getting the upgrades on the car and, most importantly, to
see that they are working as expected,” Rosberg said.
The German driver admits that the wet conditions helped the team in evaluating the full-wet Pirelli tyres and acquire some useful data for their set-up. This data will be used by Mercedes’ engineers to develop the perfect balance for the car.
“It was tricky out there today; there wasn't a lot of grip, but it was really useful to get the experience on the Pirelli wet tyres,” he added.
On the other hand, Schumacher managed to drive the new Mercedes for five laps during the morning test session.
Mercedes GP Formula 1 team is quite confident about its 2011 run now, as they believe that they have achieved their respective goals before the season opening race. The team are looking to score some good points and compete alongside the top runners in the
first race of the season in Australia.
